A prez-ent for Sandy victims

A Long Island family flooded out of its home by Hurricane Sandy scored tickets to Monday’s presidential inauguration ceremonies.

Jim and Amy Pfail and their two teenage kids had to leave their waterfront home in Massapequa after the house took on four feet of water.

They weren’t able to return until the living room and sleeping areas were completely reconstructed just before Christmas.

“I am chairman of the inaugural committee so I get some tickets,’’ said Sen. Chuck Schumer (pictured) yesterday during an unrelated event in Ronkonkoma, where he handed over the ducats.

“Instead of just giving them out to fat cats and fancy people, we gave them to average folks,’’ said Schumer.

He said about 21 state families won tickets, “but we also wanted to give some tickets to some people who were hurt by Hurricane Sandy.

“This is my slightly belated Christmas gift — three really good seats to the presidential inauguration. It’s history in the making,’’ Schumer said.

The Pfail family had to move in with Amy’s mom for two months.

“It was nasty, but we were able to put up a tree and celebrate Christmas. The tickets are wonderful — it’s a nice treat,’’ said Amy, 47.

“I heard they were good seats. We’re real excited.

“It’s very exciting to my daughter Elise, who is 18. This was the first time she voted.”

Amy said she and her husband are still waiting for payment from their insurance company.

When asked if she would lobby Congress for more Sandy relief while she was in DC, she said, “I’ll see what I can do.”
