Starbucks fills Mad. Ave. gap

Starbucks is filling in a prominent hole on Madison Avenue, where the ubiquitous coffee chain has been hunting for a location for years.

The Post has learned that the new 1,800-square-foot store at 1146 Madison Ave. at 85th Street, where Banana Republic was previously rooted, closes the gap between Starbucks stops at East 58th and 96th streets.

David Firestein of SCG Retail, who represents the coffee giant, would not confirm the deal, but said Starbucks has been looking to open a store on that Madison stretch in the 80s for some time.

Scott Edlitz of NAI Global represented the Donald Zucker Co., which owns the apartment building where yoga togs purveyor Lululemon opened at the corner last year.

Josh Roth of Zucker’s Manhattan Skyline Management confirmed the Starbucks deal and said there is one store left between the two retailers.

Roth declined to discuss asking rents, but other brokers said area rents are about $350 per foot and can be higher for corners.
