An embattled John Liu announced last night that he had raised more than $500,000 over the last six months for his expected run for mayor.
“All systems go, full steam ahead!” the city comptroller said in a statement.
While the group Friends of John Liu raised $522,000, it spent $345,000 after mid-July. The summary did not spell out the expenses.
In Liu’s prior financial report, about half of his expenses were for legal bills tied to his defense against a federal campaign-finance probe.
His former treasurer, Jia “Jenny” Hou, and fund-raiser Xing Wu “Oliver” Pan face trial next month on charges that they schemed to funnel illegal contributions into Liu’s campaign war chest.
