Bill Thompson reports he’s raised $1M for mayoral campaign

Bill Thompson’s campaign for mayor is showing some life.

Thompson reports today that he raised more than $1 million in contributions to his campaign war chest over the past six months, dispelling notions that he can’t generate the financial muscle to win the Democratic nomination for mayor.

In 2009, Thompson the former Democratic city comptroller, came within four points of upsetting Mayor Bloomberg, the Independent-Republican incumbent who spent more than $100 million to win a third term.

“I am honored and encouraged by this strong show of support. It will help us kickstart our campaign, bring us one step closer to victory, and lead us toward a better New York for all,” Thompson said.
