LES man gets community service on graffiti charges

A Lower East Side man who gained brief fame last August after being caught-on-camera with his gal pal smooching – in handcuffs – outside Manhattan Criminal Court will serve eight days of community service after copping a plea to graffiti charges.

Russell Murphy – who was snapped lip-locking with Alexis Creque on Aug. 16 by Brooklyn photographer Mo Gelber – pled guilty today to a count each of criminal mischief and possession of a graffiti instrument. He had been arrested for allegedly spray-painting a building.

If he stays out of trouble for a year he can re-plea down from a misdemeanor to a violation and have a clean record.

“Ultimately, my client should be left without a criminal record and be able to go on with his life,” said Murphy’s lawyer Stacey Richman.

Gerber had hoped the shot “Last Kiss” would win him a prestigious contest run by Canon camera company and famed director Ron Howard, but he couldn’t get signed releases from the lovebirds.
