Scare tactic ‘ad’ nausea

In a new ad, the union behind the city school-bus strike used generic photos of horribly mangled buses and kids in wheelchairs and neck braces to scare parents.

The Amalgamated Transit Union eventually edited the footage to replace a picture of a New Orleans bus that had been damaged during Hurricane Katrina.

The new version also fixed an embarrassing typo that misspelled the union’s name.

Mayor Bloomberg’s press secretary, Marc LaVorgna, said the 30-second ad was “indicative of the level of honesty coming from the striking bus-drivers union.”

A union spokesman said the ad is “intended to be a dramatization,” and will run until Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott come to the table to reach an agreement.
