Sharon Stone will play president in TV pilot

Sharon Stone has signed on to star in the TNT action-drama pilot “Agent X” (working title).

The Oscar-nominated actress will play America’s newly-elected first female vice president, Natalie Maccabee, who learns that the job comes with a top secret duty — protecting the Constitution in times of crisis with the help of a secret operative called Agent X and her chief steward.

It would be the first regular TV series role for Stone (“Basic Instinct,” “Casino”), who has guest-starred on shows like “The Practice” (for which she earned an Emmy), “Will & Grace,” “Roseanne” and “Law & Order: SVU.” She also appeared in the 2001 HBO movie “If These Walls Could Talk 2.”

“Agent X” is written by William Blake Herron (“The Bourne Identity”) and produced by Beacon Pictures and executive producer Armyan Bernstein (“Air Force One”).

The project would be the second series to center on a female vice president following HBO’s “Veep” starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
