Ex-NYT Magazine editor Lindgren joining Hollywood Reporter

Hugo Lindgren, bounced as editor of the New York Times Magazine by Jill Abramson late last year, is joining The Hollywood Reporter as acting editor.

It’s the first move by Janice Min, the former editor of THR, who was just named the co-president and chief creative officer for the entertainment group of the parent company Guggenheim Media on Wednesday.

“Hugo will be relocating to LA from the polar vortex of New York City beginning Jan. 27,” Min said in a note to staffers on Friday.

Lindgren had spent 10 years as the right-hand man of Adam Moss at New York magazine, but the relationship had soured by 2010, when he left for a short stint at Bloomberg Business Week.

He was quickly hired by then-Times Executive Editor Bill Keller in late 2010 but never clicked with Abramson after she took over.

In November, she announced she was looking for his replacement, which she has yet to name.

One of Lindgren’s first tasks will be rebuilding some of the THR staff since Min is pulling three of her protegés to help her revamp Billboard.

“Though the words “New York” appear frequently in the titles of publications he has served, don’t worry,” wrote Min in her memo to staffers. “He knows his way around Hollywood.”
