Broncos’ John Fox failed to cash $1M bonus

The Broncos’ loss in the Super Bowl on Sunday was a tough one for coach John Fox and a costly one.

ESPN reported Fox would have earned a $1 million bonus if his Broncos beat the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Instead, the Broncos were blown out, 43-8.

The 58-year-old Fox’s salary is reportedly $3.5 million. He led the Broncos to a 13-3 record this year, but they could not come home with the title.

It was the second time Fox has lost a Super Bowl as a head coach. He took the Panthers there 10 years ago, but came up short against the Patriots. Fox also was the defensive coordinator on the Giants team that lost Super Bowl XXXV to the Ravens.

“They’re all difficult,” Fox said. “This game is a lot of fun when you win. It doesn’t matter which game. At the end of the NFL season, there is one happy camper and that’s the Seattle Seahawks tonight.”

Fox should receive a new contract before the 2014 season, the last on his current deal.
