Former Mets prospect Kazmir earns Indians fifth-starter’s job: report

Former Mets prospect Scott Kazmir, who never appeared in a game for the team, has made the Indians roster and will be their fifth starter, according to Newsradio WTAM 1100 in Cleveland.

After missing the entire 2012 season because he was unable to get a contract, Kazmir signed a minor league deal with the Indians and impressed enough to make the rotation. he will be added to the roster on April 6, the Indians’ fifth game of the season.

Kazmir, the 15th overall pick in the 2002 draft, was traded from the Mets to the Rays in a package deal for Victor Zambrano in 2004 and had modest success, making two All-Star teams during his six seasons there.

He has a career record of 66-61with a 4.17 ERA in eight seasons.
