Justin Timberlake for next year’s Oscars?

A movement is afoot to draft Justin Timberlake as next year’s Oscar show host.

After a string of comic flops — including Seth McFarlane this year, James Franco and Ann Hathaway in 2011 and lackluster Billy Crystal last year — suddenly a singer is starting to make sense to a lot of folks.

It doesn’t hurt that Timberlake is already performing again in a tuxedo.

Gossip columnist Mike Walker reports that Timberlake “has been considered before, but they always thought he was too young and not seasoned enough. Now, he’s the frontrunner for the job—after showing he knows how to sing, dance, act, host, and improvise on the spot.”

The report got wide play on the web over the weekend and sites were taking up the call to get the Motion Picture Academy to offer Timberlake the job.

“Justin Timberlake is probably a pretty good choice for the Oscars,” wrote the culturally snobby Atlantic Wire web site. “His singing-dancing-funny schtick is exactly what the Oscars want.”
