Two children died following an early Thursday crash on Interstate 76 in Milton Township, officials said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Pedro Crumpton, 7, and Paris Crumpton, 2, died following the crash at about 8 a.m. in the westbound lanes near state Route 534.

The children were riding in a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Rashon Crumpton, 38, when the vehicle went out of control, flipped into the westbound lanes and was struck by a semi-truck heading in the opposite direction. The children and their mother, Shakia Crumpton, 36, were ejected from the vehicle. The children died instantly of head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Rashon and Shakia Crumpton were transported to St. Elizabeth Heath Center in Youngstown.

“It rolled over several times. It ejected three of the occupants. The driver of the vehicle was not ejected, and at that time it came back into the westbound lanes, and that’s when it was struck by the semi,” said Sgt. Bret Henderson with the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Patrol. “You can tell this crash occurred extremely fast, and you know the kids were sleeping, you know it didn’t appear they had seat belts on. So, the end result was the occupants were ejected, and unfortunately, the two children didn’t survive.”
