Pot pol gets pass from judge

ALBANY — A pot-possession charge against a Westchester County lawmaker was dismissed yesterday by an upstate judge.

The charge, which is a violation, will be wiped from Republican state Assemblyman Steve Katz’s record if he stays out of trouble for six months and performs 20 hours of community service, the Albany-area court ruled.

“He’s not going to get into trouble,” lawyer Susan Chana Lask said after appearing in court for her client — who also pleaded down a related speeding charge to a parking violation with a $75 fine.

State Police stopped Katz on March 12 and charged him with speeding on the state Thruway. The troopers, smelling marijuana, searched the car and turned up a small bag of pot.
