Schools officials are seeking to boot a cyber-savvy math teacher who live-streamed his idle days in a city “rubber room” and documented online his yearlong battle with his principal.
The charges against Francesco Portelos of Staten Island’s IS 49 stem from a 15-month probe that found misconduct by the teacher — though much of it minor.
Portelos accessed a colleague’s e-mails without permission but on a Web domain that he managed. He used a Department of Education computer for his moonlighting real-estate gig, but there’s no evidence he did so during school hours.
“This type of behavior breeds mistrust and undermines the stability of schools,” said a DOE spokeswoman, adding that specific charges are pending.
Portelos claims his yearlong reassignment began only after he complained of his principal’s shady overtime and management of school finances.
