King: Obama should ‘stop apologizing’ about spying

President Barack Obama should “stop apologizing” and “stop being defensive’ about the National Security Agency spying on our allies in Europe, New York Rep. Peter King said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

King said President Obama needs to “stand with the NSA” and its chief, Gen. Keith Alexander, and show them at least as much love as he showed New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate last week.

“If he can find the time to go to Junior’s Cheesecake with Bill de Blasio, he can find time to go to Fort Meade and stand with Gen. Alexander,” he said.

“The reality is, the NSA has saved thousands of lives — not just in the United States but also in France, Germany and throughout Europe,” King said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

The NSA monitored millions of European phone calls and even tapped the cell phone of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to news reports last week. European leaders have howled over the revelations, but King said they’re in no position to complain.

“The French are [ones] to talk, when the fact is they’ve carried out spying operations against the United States, both government and industry,” he said.
