Giants’ Nicks joins Roc Nation as free agency awaits

INDIANAPOLIS — Hoping to rejuvenate his chances at big money after a terrible contract year, Hakeem Nicks fired his agent Thursday and signed with Jay Z’s RocNation Sports agency.

The Giants wide receiver left longtime agent Peter Schaffer and will join teammate Victor Cruz, Jets quarterback Geno Smith, NBA star Kevin Durant and former Yankee Robinson Cano in the rap star’s growing stable of sports clients.

However, Nicks reportedly leave his upcoming contract negotiations to Tom Condon of super agency CAA and have RocNation handle his marketing and endorsements. That is a similar arrangement to Cruz’s with RocNation.

Nicks has expressed a desire to return to the Giants, a move that Cruz has openly lobbied for, but Big Blue’s interest is thought to be minimal after he managed just 56 catches for 896 yards and no touchdowns last season in the final year of his original contract.

Nicks is expected to become an unrestricted free agent and would be one of the bigger names on the market at the position along with Jeremy Maclin, Eric Decker and Anquan Boldin.
