Engineer of derailed Metro-North train suspended

The engineer of the derailed Metro-North train in the Bronx was suspended without pay, authorities said.

William Rockefeller was suspended on Sunday after the crash, since investigators knew at that point he was speeding, according to a source.

The 14-year veteran made $145,575 last year, including $44,838 in overtime.

The fate of his job at the Metro-North, including his pension, will be determined at a disciplinary hearing, a source said. Information will be presented at the hearing that is gathered from a parallel Metro-North investigation.

Rockefeller has a clean disciplinary history. He was hired as a custodian in 1999 at Grand Central Terminal, and became an engineer in 2003, a source added.
