In the nightcap, Roger Clemens beaned Mike Piazza in the head with one of his signature fastballs. Piazza would miss the All-Star Game because of the injuries suffered on the play. When the teams met in the World Series, Clemens famously threw Piazza’s shattered bat at the Mets catcher after it broke on a Clemens pitch.

Dae-Sung Koo’s Mets career was far from memorable except for this day. Facing Randy Johnson, Koo doubled over the head of Bernie Williams. The South Korean starter would score from second on a sacrifice bunt after the Yankees left home plate uncovered. Yankees catcher Jorge Posada tried to race back to beat Koo, but was too late. The Mets would win the game 7-1.

“It couldn’t happen to a better guy on the mound, either. He’s got a tired act,” said Bruney of Rodriguez, while rehabbing with the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate.
Sunday, when Bruney was back with the Yankees, he and K-Rod got into a shoving match before the game.
