Get off the stump, O: Boehner

WASHINGTON — House Speaker John Boehner yesterday ripped President Obama for “throwing in the towel” on fixing the economy and spending all his time campaigning.

“Nothing has disappointed me more than what’s happened over the last five weeks, to watch the president of the United States give up on governing, give up on leading, and spend full time campaigning,” Boehner (R-Ohio) complained.

“All year, I’ve reached out to the president,” he said at the Washington Ideas Forum. “Yet the president, some 14 months before the election, throws in the towel … We’re legislating; he’s campaigning.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also blasted Obama and his Democrats for continuing to play politics with a $447 billion jobs bill that “they know won’t pass.”

Obama was undaunted, daring Republicans to vote down his jobs bill and then explain their vote to the American people.

“Our economy really needs a jolt right now. This is not a game. This is not the time for the usual political gridlock,” Obama said at a White House press conference.

The Senate is expected to vote on the bill next week.
