Cameron Douglas’ drug supplier found guilty of dealing meth

A Manhattan federal court jury today convicted Cameron Douglas’ drug supplier of dealing methamphetamine but he was acquitted on the top charge.

David Escalara faces at least five years in prison after being found guilty of dealing more than 50 grams of meth. But he beat the more serious charge, dealing more than 500 grams, which would have sent him to jail for at least 10 years.

“It’s better than what he originally faced,” Escalara’s lawyer, Louis Aidala, said after the verdict.

Douglas, the troubled 32-year-old son of Michael Douglas and grandson of Kirk Douglas, was the star witness in the case.

Douglas, who is serving his own 5-year sentence for meth dealing, testified that Escalara met him at gas stations and restaurants to supply him with meth, cocaine and heroine. His testimony was part of the plea agreement he made when he was sentenced last year.

Escalara showed no emotion when the verdict was read. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 10.
