Sunday, 8 p.m., ABC Family

Simba, a lion cub, (Jonathan Taylor Thomas voices the baby Simba, and Matthew Broderick voices the adult), who is heir to his father’s kingdom, is tricked into thinking he is responsible for his dad’s death. The death, which was really engineered by his Uncle Scar (Jeremy Irons), was supposed to kill the cub as well so that Scar can take over. Simba runs away and is found, exhausted and near death by Timone the Meerkat (Nathan Lane) and Pummba the Warthog (Ernie Sabella). The trio grow into adults and fight to save the animals of Simba’s lost kingdom.

The Big Lebowski, 1998

Monday, 1 p.m., WLNY

Another offbeat, wild and wacky Coen brothers movie about weird and wonderful characters. This one, especially popular among men of a certain age, is the story of lazy bowler, “Dude Lebowski (Jeff Bridges, near left), who is mistaken for a rich guy of the same name. When The Dude finds him, he is coerced by him into taking a one-time, big payoff job. The movie, filled with typical, atypical Coen brothers characters, also stars John Goodman (above), Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Village of the Damned, 1960

Thursday, 8 a.m., TCM

What do you call a move with an A-list star and B-movie sensibilities? You call it just terrific. George Sanders (far right) stars in the tale of the small English town of Midwich, whose females all become pregnant after the whole town falls into a several hours-long nap. Nine months later, a townful of creepy, blond children with special, sinister powers and crazy blue eyes are born.

Rent, 2005

Saturday, 2:30 p.m., WWOR

The movie from the Broadway sensation, starring Rosario Dawson (near left), and Taye Diggs, is about seven friends sharing a Bohemian lifestyle in the East Village in the late ’80’s. There they deal with homelessness, AIDS, love and loss — while singing some fantastic songs about it all.
