Man ‘threw scissors in hot oven after stabbing father to death’

The schizophrenic son who butchered his father with a pair of scissors, and nearly killed his mother, attempted to destroy the murder weapon by trying to melt them in an oven before cops arrived, according to the criminal complaint.

Anthony Powe, 27, who was arraigned Wednesday via video from his Bellevue Hospital bed, allegedly threw the pair of scissors he used to fatally stab his 71-year-old father, Darlington Powe, in the oven when he heard cops were on their way to the family’s Columbus Avenue apartment, the complaint states.

Powe then turned on the appliance, causing black smoke to billow out and the plastic part of the scissors to melt.

Powe was later arrested in his underwear on East 96th Street after he fled through Central Park, sources said.

Powe was remanded on charges of murder, attempted murder and attempted arson for the March 18 attack that left his father dead and his mother, Alicia Powe, with a stab wound to the chest.

Powe’s sister, Rochelle Powe, has said in the past that her brother isn’t well and suffers from schizophrenia.

He is due back in court on April 22.
