Aussie crime drama coming to ABC

The Australian crime drama “Secrets & Lies” is coming to the US — before it’s even aired.

ABC has ordered a 10-episode run of the series, which won’t premiere on Australian TV until next year and stars Martin Henderson as the head of a family who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a young boy (shades of “Broadchurch,” which aired on BBC America and will be adapted for the US by Fox with original star David Tennant).

The US version, which will go straight-to-series (no pilot presentation) will be produced by Australia’s Hoodlum, in a co-production with ABC Studios and Kapital Entertainment.

Casting is said to be underway, both for the leads and for a showrunner. ABC has not given an airdate for the drama.

Kapital currently produces “The Neighbors” and “Back in the Game” for ABC.
