NYC pulling down ‘Don’t Honk’ signs

The city is taking down all of its “Don’t Honk” signs in an effort to declutter the streets.

The signs that nearly everyone ignores could all come down by the end of the year.

Excessive honking, however, will remain against the law.

Motorists can get a $350 fine if caught beeping.

“There are 1.3 million signs on our streets, and excessive signs are distractions for motorists that can diminish the overall effectiveness of signs such as Speed Limit, One-Way or Do Not Enter signs,” said DOT spokesman Seth Solomonow.

He said the number of number of 311 complaints about honking decreased 63 percent citywide in the last five years.
