Ed Fountaine Stakes Spot Plays

Withers

Aqueduct, ninth race. Grade 3. Purse: $200,000. 1 1/16 miles, 3-year-olds. Post: 4:18 p.m.

LOWDOWN:
Revolutionary was a money-burning bust finishing third, second and third as the heavy favorite in his first three starts. Then the son of War Pass went two turns for the first time over Aqueduct’s inner track on Dec. 28 and romped to his first win by 8 1/2 lengths over Transparent, who then came back to break his maiden by 5 3/4. The Beyer number of 102 that Revolutionary earned for his graduation suggests he is not only by far the fastest horse in this field, but he is one of the fastest 3-year-olds in America.

R.B. LEWIS

Santa Anita, fourth race. Grade 2. Purse: $200,000. 1 1/16 miles, 3-year-olds. Post: 5:03 p.m.

LOWDOWN:
Flashback was a good thing first time out for trainer Bob Baffert at Hollywood Park, coming from off the pace to win by 3 1/2 lengths as the even-money favorite. Though he gives away a lot of experience in this short field to Den’s Legacy and He’s Had Enough, Flashback probably has the biggest future. He has been burning up the track at Santa Anita in his morning trials.

SAM F. DAVIS

Tampa Bay Downs, 11th race. Grade 3. Purse: $250,000. 1 1/16 miles, 3-year-olds. Post: 5:23 p.m.

LOWDOWN:
Dynamic Sky is the class of this field, having finished second in last year’s Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity, beaten a length, and then sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile racing without Lasix. He also comes off a stakes win over the quirky Tampa Bay track, which in the past has proved to be an important factor.
