NY gambles on 1 agency

The state agencies in charge of regulating New York’s horse-racing industry and running its lotteries are now merged into one department.

The merger of the New York Lottery and the Racing and Wagering Board into the New York State Gaming Commission became effective yesterday.

Gov. Cuomo proposed the merger a year ago as part of his state budget plan.

The Gaming Commission’s Web site is http://www.gaming.ny.gov. The commission’s offices are in downtown Schenectady.
