Man struck, killed by NYPD cruiser in Queens accident

A pedestrian was killed this morning in Queens when he ran into the path of an oncoming police car, authorities said.

The unidentified man darted into traffic, mid-block on 40th Avenue near 10th Street, around 12:45 a.m. when he was struck, police said.

The housing cops were responding to an assault in progress and had their police lights on at the time of the accident, cops said.

The two officers inside the cruiser were responding to a 911 call and the man was trying to cross the street at the time of the accident, police said.

The vehicle remained at the scene hours after the crash, the windshield cracked as the victim’s body lay nearby.

The man died at the scene, police said.

The officers were not seriously injured, and police are continuing to investigate.
