Getaway driver in Figoski slaying, Michael Velez, to head to jail for probation violation

A man acquitted of murder last week in the shooting death of an NYPD officer is going to jail — for a little while anyway.

Cops said Michael Velez violated his probation when he drove a car to a Brooklyn drug dealer’s house that was being targeted for a botched robbery that ended in the shooting death of NYPD Det. Peter Figoski.

Triggerman Lamont Pride was convicted of second-degree murder, but Velez dodged the murder and burglary raps.

Even so, a Queens judge sentenced Velez today to two years in jail for violating his parole on a four year-old assault charge. Velez also admitted under oath during the murder trial that he had sold drugs while on probation.

Velez faced up to seven years in prison for the third-degree assault charge had he not taken the plea.

Velez has been in jail since the December 2011 Figoski shooting, and will be credited for time served dating back to February 2012, when he was originally slapped with the parole violation.

Velez will also have three more years of probation tacked on when he gets out.

Figoski’s family was outraged over last week’s acquittal. Relatives could not immediately be reached for comment on the parole sentence.

“Brooklyn’s revolving door of justice continues to spin and in a year, it will spit out this misfit to return to his life of crime,” railed PBA President Patrick Lynch. “The jury set him free and if the past is any indication, he’ll be part of more deadly crimes in the future. It’s disgraceful.”
