Sherman: Jets’ Revis talking ‘like a little girl’

INDIANAPOLIS — Richard Sherman isn’t going to let his beef with Darrelle Revis go anytime soon, apparently.

Fresh off his Twitter battle with the Revis on Wednesday, the Seahawks cornerback ratcheted up the feud in an interview with the NFL Network Thursday in which he called the Jets’ corner “a little girl.”

“I am not going to let no dude talk like a little girl and just walk freely,” Sherman said when asked why he won’t let the matter die. “I am going to quiet him down the best way I know how. You are not going to let a guy run his mouth. I am not that kind of person [to] let a guy say bold statements and let them ride.”

Added Sherman: “I don’t know what [Revis] has done stats-wise to earn the right to talk down to people. He has never had more than six [interceptions] in a season so let’s quiet down.”

Seahawks general manager John Schneider, speaking at the NFL scouting combine, doesn’t seem to mind Sherman’s brashness in going after Revis.

“He feels he’s the best corner in the league,” Schneider said. “God bless him.”

* Jets GM John Idzik probably won’t sell too many T-shirts with the official team slogan he unveiled Thursday.

“We’re going to have a general mantra here with the New York Jets, and it’s going to be, ‘Competition, through and through,’ ’’ Idzik said.

Jets players definitely should take that saying to heart, he added.

“It’s going to be something constant,” Idzik said. “We want to improve competition at every single position. … I just want to give the flavor of what we’re going to be about. Even if there’s an incumbent, we don’t want complacency.”

* Coach Rex Ryan said he had no plans to hire twin brother Rob, even while Rob Ryan was in limbo this month after abruptly changing his mind about serving as the Rams’ defensive coordinator.

Rob eventually landed the same role with the Saints, and Rex said that was for the best.

“Even though I recognize him as a great coach, he’s probably better off doing things his own way,” Rex said.

* Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones, considered a potential No. 1 overall pick by some draft analysts, said he will not work out at the combine this weekend. Jones instead will wait until his pro day next month to show off for NFL scouts.

* The NFL’s competition committee is meeting here this week, and the potential elimination of low blocks like the one by Jets guard Matt Slauson that ended Houston linebacker B
rian Cushing’s year last season is on the table.

It’s a delicate issue for Texans coach Gary Kubiak because — while he was upset about Slauson’s hit — his teams always have used similar cut blocks as their primary technique.

“Cut blocks are part of what we do, but I understand what the league is trying to accomplish in making the game safer,” Kubiak said.
