Queens cop car kills pedestrian

A pedestrian was killed yesterday in Queens after darting into the path of an oncoming police car, cops said.

The unidentified adult male was running through traffic, mid-block on 40th Avenue near 10th Street, about 12:45 a.m., when he was struck. He died at the scene.

The officers were responding to an assault in progress and had their police lights on, the NYPD said. But several witnesses said they first heard a loud “boom” before the police lights came on.

The vehicle remained at the scene hours after the crash, its windshield cracked as the victim’s body lay nearby.
