Kanye’s final Nike immediately sells out, fetching $4K on eBay

Just how popular are Kanye’s new kicks? A day after their debut, they’re selling on eBay for $4,000.

Kanye West and Nike’s fabled shoe collaboration, the “Red October” Air Yeezy II, finally went on sale on Sunday, and sold out within 11 minutes.

Sale of the sneaker, the last of the 36-year-old rapper’s collaboration with the brand, was quietly announced on Nike’s Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.

The all-red shoes, which were only made available through the company’s online shop, Nikestore.com, sold out almost immediately, with the “Red Octobers” soon appearing on eBay.

Bidding on listings of the lusted-after shoes has already surpassed $4,000. Nikestore.com originally sold them for $245, according to Sole Collector.

Sneaker freaks and West obsessives have been salivating over the red shoe since West first wore a pair during the closing performance at last year’s Governor’s Ball Music Festival in June.

Despite the immense hype for the shoe, a firm release date was never set by Nike, angering the rapper but also making the shoe a mythical object among sneaker aficionados.

Except for the most connected of collectors — like Jets Quarterback Geno Smith — the shoes were nearly impossible to get ahold of, reports Complex. West gave away a limited amount of pairs of the shoes in June, though winners of the contest have yet to receive their prize. And in December, Footlocker posted a listing for the sneaker on its website, only to soon pull it offline.

The “Red Octobers” also appeared on the social commerce site The Fancy last week, listed for the exorbitant price of $10,000 a pair.

Despite the hype surrounding their collaboration, West and Nike parted ways late last year, with the rapper signing a $10 million deal with rival sneaker company Adidas.

“The old me — without a daughter — might have taken this Nike deal because I just love Nike so much, blah, blah, blah, but the new me, with a daughter, takes the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family,” the rapper said in an interview with Hot 97 in November in which he also promised he’d become bigger than Walmart.
