Rob Lowe sells family drama to ABC

“Parks and Recreation” and former “West Wing” star Rob Lowe has sold a semi-autobiographical family drama to ABC, Deadline.com reports.

Co-created with “West Wing” producer Kevin Falls, “The Point” will center on a single mother and her two teenagers who move from Indiana to Malibu in 1976 as it transitions from a middle-class beach town to playground of the rich and famous, according to the report.

As told in his 2011 memoir, Lowe grew up in Ohio and moved to Malibu’s Point Dume with his mom and brother when he was a teenager.

Falls (who is also co-creator of TNT’s “Franklin & Bash”) will write the pilot and executive producer with Lowe, who is already signed on to star in the NBC workplace comedy pilot “The Pro.”

Lowe is wrapping a four-season run on “Parks,” with his character set to exit after this season’s 13th episode.

Lowe will also star as President John F. Kennedy in the upcoming Nat Geo movie “Killing Kennedy” premiering Nov. 10.
