1973 movie ‘The Candy Snatchers’ caught in copyright fight

A copyright catfight is brewing over the 1973 schlock flick “The Candy Snatchers” — even though its own Playboy-model star once described it as “the worst film in the history of the world.”

The film about a brutal kidnapping, loosely based on a real-life caper, claims Manhattan-based Film Chest Media Group, which was distributing the picture to channels like Turner Classic Movies until last year.

But Lisa Michelle Hyde of California says she’s the rightful owner of the movie, starring 1972 Playboy model Tiffany Bolling.

TCM pulled the picture from its lineup in November, according to court papers.

But Film Chest Media says it has found no proof that Hyde, or anyone else, ever registered the copyright to the picture, according to a lawsuit Film Chest filed last month in Manhattan federal court.
