Brooklyn Bridge to reopen after two-hour closure; police clear abandoned vehicle

An abandoned vehicle stopped rush-hour traffic in both directions on the Brooklyn Bridge and parts of the

Brooklyn-Queens Expressway for nearly two hours while cops investigated the unattended SUV, parked about mid-span, police said.

A 9-1-1 caller alerted cops to the suspicious, unattended Dodge Durango with no license plates on the bridge around 5:15 p.m. Police searched the vehicle, found no explosives and began to clear the scene around 7 p.m.

Cops are checking the Vehicle Identification Number for owner information and clues about how and why it was left on the bridge, sources said.

Cops had cars back up and turn around to evacuate the bridge. Pedestrians were moved away from the vehicle while the NYPD’s Bomb Squad responded.
