Elderly cyclist dead after SUV collision in Brooklyn

An elderly bicyclist was struck and killed by a SUV in Brooklyn today, cops said.

Mai Zhang, 74, was hit as he turned onto Benson Avenue from Bay 26th Street in Bath Beach at about noon, cops said.

The man’s daughter rushed to the scene and became hysterical when she saw her father’s body.

“No, no, it can’t be him! No!,” she screamed in Chinese, according to another family member who translated her words.

“He was in bad shape. He took some hit. He was bleeding profusely,” said David Feldman, 56, who lives nearby.

The woman driving the white SUV is a doctor and rushed to try to help the dying man.

“I can’t believe this happened,” she said, according to an EMT who responded to the fatal crash.

The driver’s 12-year-old son was so upset by the crash he ran away, cops said, but returned later with his father.

Cops said there was no criminality.

The bike the 88-year-old man was riding was not part of the Citi Bike program, which launched today.
