Brady: ‘Losing sucks and especially to the Jets’

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is no fan of losing, and there’s one team he hates losing to more than others.

“Losing sucks and especially to the Jets, so I’m going to go out there and try to have my best week this week,” Brady said on WEEI’s “Dennis and Callahan” show Monday morning.

The Patriots appeared to have Sunday’s game firmly under control with a 21-10 lead at halftime. But on the second play of the second half, Brady was intercepted by Jets safety Antonio Allen, who returned it 23 yards for a touchdown. The New England offense sputtered in the second half, and Brady only completed 22 of 46 passes (47.8 percent) and averaged a paltry five yards per attempt.

The Patriots lost the game in overtime. A pushing penalty on rookie defensive lineman Chris Jones cancelled out Nick Folk’s 56-yard field-goal attempt that sailed wide left — the first time the new rule resulted in a penalty — and set up Folk for a 42-yard game-winner.

“I did know the rule,” Brady said. “I didn’t obviously see the play or see what they called. I really haven’t seen the replay. It really shouldn’t have come down to that. We had plenty of other opportunities in the game to score points and really widen the gap we had on them at halftime.

“We sputtered in the third quarter, fought back in the fourth quarter, had some chances in the end, got the ball to start overtime, so there’s nobody to blame but ourselves. It’s a frustrating day. It’s a frustrating day losing. Hopefully we can learn from it and be a lot better this week.”

The 5-2 Patriots, who lead the AFC East by one game over the 4-3 Jets, host the Dolphins and Steelers the next two weeks before their bye.
