Whoopi Goldberg returns to Lifetime

Whoopi Goldberg is getting back into the movie game.

The View” co-host will star in — and executive-produce — “A Day Late and a Dollar Short,” an adaptation of Terry McMillan’s best seller.

The movie, which will go into production this summer, will air next year on Lifetime. It will be directed by Stephen Tolkin (“Perception”).

Goldberg will star as “irascible matriarch” Viola Price, who — when she discovers that her next asthma attack is likely to kill her — sets out on a quest to heal the many breaches in her family, including rifts between her four children.

Goldberg, who won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress in “Ghost,” will reunite with McMillan after co-starring with Angela Bassett in the big-screen version of McMillan’s book, “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.”

It’s also a reunion between Lifetime and Goldberg, who’s worked on several projects for the network.

Goldberg was the executive producer of Lifetime’s weekly series “Strong Medicine,” which aired from 2000-2006 with stars Rosa Blasi, Jenifer Lewis, Joshua Cox and Philip Casnoff.

She also executive-produced the 2001 Lifetime movie “What Makes a Family” — in addition to producing TV movies for TNT (“Call Me Claus”) and Showtime (“Good Fences”).
