Trayvon horror: Dad leaves courtroom when graphic photos of slain son are shown

Trayvon Martin’s father walked out of a tense Florida courtroom yesterday as graphic photos of his slain son, including close-ups of his fatal wound, were shown to jurors.

Tracy Martin, visibly upset, left the room to compose himself and Trayvon’s mother looked away as the prosecution showed large photos of the 17-year-old and questioned a police officer who tried to save his life.

“I tried to get his pulse,” Sgt. Anthony Raimondo said. “I also performed CPR. I breathed for Mr. Martin . . . I tried to.”

Raimondo, of the Sanford, Fla., police, said he asked horrified neighbors, who had come to the crime scene, for plastic wrap and Vaseline to plug the wound but it was too late. Martin was declared dead moments later.

The dramatic testimony came after lawyers for defendant George Zimmerman fought to keep the jury from hearing several phone calls by him to police to report suspicious people in his gated community in the six months before the fatal confrontation with Martin.

Prosecutor Richard Mantei argued that jurors should hear the calls because it shows Zimmerman’s “ill will.” In each of the calls, Zimmerman was reporting a black male, like Martin.

But defense lawyer Mark O’Mara said the calls would mislead the jury about what happened on the night of Feb. 26, 2012.

Prosecutors are “going to ask the jury to make a leap from a good responsible citizen behavior to seething behavior,” O’Mara said.

Also yesterday, jurors heard from the first neighbor who partially witnessed the struggle between Zimmerman and Martin.

Selene Bahadoor said she heard the sound of running outside the town home she lived in, and when she looked out a window she saw arms flailing in the dark. She said she also heard shouts of “no” before she looked again and saw a body on the ground.
