Roland Martin earns hosting role at ‘News One Now’

Former CNNer Roland Martin will host TV One’s first morning news show, according to reports,

The show, called “News One Now,” will be based in Washington, DC and will premiere in September.

It will air weekdays (timeslot to be determined).

The show is expected to focus on African-American news and current affairs and will be compiled from the third hour of a three-hour radio show syndicated on Radio One, according to deadline.com.

Martin, 44, is no stranger to TV One, having previously hosted “Washington Watch With Roland Martin.” He left CNN, where he’d been since 2007, in April, after new president Jeff Zucker took the helm.

He was suspended briefly by CNN in 2012 for what the network called “regrettable and offensive tweets” that were considered homophobic by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, according to deadline.com.
