Proposed ETFs piling up

ETFs OK not PDQ for SEC.

There are 982 exchange-traded funds that are just waiting to be approved
by the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Bloomberg, citing figures from Index Universe.

That means there are nearly as many ETFs in registration as there are already in existence.

The Winklevoss Twins, primarily known for their long dispute with Mark Zuckerberg over the provenance of Facebook, garnered more headlines recently.

But this time it was for their proposal to create an ETF that would track the ersatz currency, the bitcoin, which could be like one of the last jets trying to take off from LaGuardia on Friday night.

Although initial reactions to the idea were not what you might call encouraging, the popularity in general of ETFs may never have been greater.

And the new ETFs will trade in everything from diamonds to companies located in Nashville to the country made famous by Borat — Kazakhstan.
