Young Will Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) is running out of ideas. Luckily for him along comes the gorgeous heiress Viola de Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow), who disguises herself as a man because only men are allowed to act in the theater. Will discovers her secret, they have an affair and she becomes his muse. Thus, his play, “Romeo and Ethel” becomes”Romeo and Juliet.” Seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Paltrow) and Best Supporting Actress (Judi Dench).

The American President 1995

Tuesday, 9:45 a.m., AMC

Before lobbyists were banned from being alive, there was this delightful movie. Michael Douglas is a widowed president who falls for DC lobbyist Annette Bening (right). Of course, politics and pillows never mix, but there’s a real sweet/sexy spark between the leads.

For Colored Girls 2010

Wednesday, 9 p.m., BET

A big, all-star cast leads this touching movie taken from Ntozake Shange’s Tony-winning 1975 play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.” Twenty actresses perform the parts of 20 African-American women who are in various states of turmoil, all speaking in poetic riffs that intermingle with one another. Among the stars are Kerry Washington, Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Phylicia Rashad, Whoopi Goldberg, and Macy Gray.

Closer 2004

Thursday, 2:10 a.m., HBO

Mike Nichols’ complicated movie, which is ultimately really just about partner swapping, but nonetheless interesting. In London, an obit writer (Jude Law) meets and moves in with a former sex worker (Natalie Portman), who becomes the subject of a successful book that he writes. He also introduces a photographer (Julia Roberts) to her future hubby, a sex-addicted doctor (Clive Owen). They all lust after each other and things get messy in this sexy, tricky movie.
