Justin Pugh as a rookie is aiming to claim a starting job on the Giants’ offensive line and in order to do so he needs to be at his first training camp when it begins. He assured himself of an on-time arrival, as yesterday he signed a four-year contract, allowing him to report to camp this afternoon along with the rest of his new teammates.

On the same day, Pugh’s teammate at Syracuse, quarterback Ryan Nassib, also signed his rookie deal as the Giants got all seven of their draft picks under contract before camp opened up.

As the 19th pick in the draft, Pugh signed what is expected to be a four-year deal worth $8.345 million. He figures to immediately challenge for the starting right tackle job, a spot occupied by David Diehl, the longest-tenured Giants player, entering his 11th season. Pugh might also get a shot at supplanting Kevin Boothe at left guard.

Before the draft, the Giants projected Nassib would go off the board in the second round but he lasted until the fourth. The Giants, believing his value was too high to pass up, moved up in the round and took Nassib with the 110th overall pick. He will battle veteran incumbent David Carr for the backup quarterback role as Carr hopes to convince Tom Coughlin to keep three quarterbacks on the roster.
