3 accused of impersonating cops

Three Brooklyn men were charged with impersonating cops after police radios and guns were found in their car, the NYPD said Thursday.

Cops stopped a 2009 Nissan Altima in East Williamsburg at 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday for driving recklessly and running a red light near Bushwick Ave. and Grand Street, officials said.

As the three officers approached the Nissan, they heard NYPD radio transmissions coming from inside the car.

One of the officers said he saw one of the three male occupants attempting to kick something from the rear passenger seat under the front passenger seat.

When the three males were asked to step out of the vehicle, cops found a loaded .40 Caliber Glock and a loaded .38 Caliber revolver under the front passenger seat, authorities said.

Cops confiscated these police scanners, found in the suspects’ car.

They also found five police scanner radios.

One of the suspects turned out to be wanted by the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Police Impersonation unit for displaying a police type shield and a black firearm.

The three men in the Nissan were charged with criminal Impersonation of a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a radio device, menacing and harassment.

They were identified as Aaron Batista, the 41-year-old driver, of 70 Skillman Street; Kea Kelly, 23, of 9910 Seaview Avenue; and Benito Soto, 25, of 534 Flushing Avenue.
