Pete Carroll still sees bright future for Mark Sanchez

Pete Carroll said he expects Mark Sanchez to bounce back.

Speaking at Super Bowl Media Day, the Seahawks coach said he thinks Sanchez, his former quarterback at USC, can rebound from his lost 2013 season and his ineffective previous two seasons.

“Mark has everything ahead of him,” said Carroll, who wanted Sanchez to stay in school following his junior year rather than going pro. “As often happens when you get the break, when you get to take a step back and analyze and assess what’s going on, you come back even stronger. I think that’s what will happen with Mark. Hopefully, for him, it’ll happen in New York.

“Wherever he winds up after that, if that doesn’t work out, Mark is a good football player. I think he’ll be better than ever.”

Seattle could be in the market for a backup quarterback for Russell Wilson with Tarvaris Jackson a free agent. Though Sanchez —who missed the 2013 season following surgery on his right throwing shoulder — is under contract with the Jets through 2016, it’s not likely he will return to the team.
