Group of men attack, spit slurs at gay couple in possible Chelsea hate crime

Cops are investigating an alleged hate crime in Chelsea after a gay couple was attacked by a group of men who spat anti-gay slurs at them today, authorities said.

The victims, 53 and 27, were walking down 24th Street on their way home from the Bowtie Chelsea Cinemas at around midnight when they were approached by two men who made anti gay remarks, cops said.

The two groups went back and forth before things got physical and two of the men started beating the couple, cops said.

Another four more men joined in on the beat down before the group fled the scene, cops said.

The victims were taken to Beth Israel Hospital with cuts to their faces and heads, cops said. The 27-year-old victim was cut so badly that he needed stitches in his head, cops said.

Police are looking for surveillance footage of the incident and said the case is being investigated by the NYPD’s hate crimes unit.
