Councilman robbed

A Queens councilman’s home was burglarized this weekend while he was overseas on vacation, authorities said.

The Sunnyside home of Jimmy Van Bramer, whose district includes Long Island City and Astoria, was broken into early Saturday.

That morning, at about 8, a neighbor noticed the front door had been pried open with a crowbar, and his front door was damaged, cops said.

The home, near 39th Avenue, was rummaged through and items in cabinets and closets were dumped on the floor, authorities said.

Van Bramer said a bike, cash and his mother’s jewelry were taken, and that he’s still doing inventory to see if anything else was pilfered. None of his electronics were stolen.

“My mother asked me to put some jewelry in the cleaners, and asked me to pick it up,” he said. “It was an important ring.”

The bandit tried to pry open the back door, then escaped through a window into the courtyard.

He noted a neighbor had walked in on a burglar in recent weeks.

“The disturbing thing is that they are doing it at night, when people may be home,” he said. “We definitely have a burglar in the neighborhood.”
