Body of missing pregnant woman identified in Staten Island

Cops today confirmed that the decomposing body found in a park in Staten Island is that of 20-year-old Megan Marotte, a pregnant woman who went missing earlier this month.

The gruesome discovery happened Thursday afternoon as a woman was walking her dog through Willowbrook Park at around 3:30 p.m. when she noticed a foul odor, cops said. Investigators found Marotte’s body in a wooded area of the park. She was last seen Aug. 4, sources said.

The troubled young woman had recently been recently arrested for driving under the influence after crashing her car into the Angels’ Circle 9/11 memorial. She went missing shortly after.

Marotte’s uncle took to Facebook to announce that his niece was confirmed dead.

“It is with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that I announce the passing of my niece Megan Marotte,” Sean Lichota wrote. “I will not go into details but we brought her home.”

According to cops, there were no obvious signs of trauma.

The city medical examiner is working to determine the cause of Marotte’s death, officials said, and an investigation is still ongoing.
