‘Huguette’ haggle

The players fighting for a piece of reclusive heiress Huguette Clark’s $300 million fortune are in feverish settlement negotiations that could avoid a messy trial slated to start next month, sources said.

A deal could bring millions to 19 distant Clark relatives, who had been cut out of her will in favor of a private nurse, her personal doctor, Beth Israel hospital, various charities and a lawyer and accountant already blasted as “dishonest” by a judge.

The childless Clark, the daughter of copper king and former US Senator William Clark, was 104 when she died in May 2011. Her relatives claim she wasn’t mentally competent when she signed the will.
