Huge blaze at Brooklyn lumber yard

The FDNY braved frigid temperatures while battling a raging four-alarm fire early Saturday at a Greenpoint lumber yard.

The blaze broke out about 12:15 a.m. at the Marly Supply Company at 858 Meeker Ave. at Varick Avenue, and the Brooklyn warehouse was quickly engulfed in flames just a few feet from the BQE.

The warehouse stores lumber, bricks, sheetrock and other building supplies

Police and fire officials closed off exit 33 on the BQE, due to the fire coming “dangerously” close to traffic, according to authorities.

“This is a tough one. Not only with these weather conditions but with the material inside. Very flammable,” said one firefighter on the scene.

The FDNY was also hampered because several nearby hydrants froze as temperatures dropped into the single digits.

“At first they were frozen,” a firefighter said. “We have a big apparatus that we place over the hydrants to thaw them out.”

There were no injuries in the blaze, authorities said, and the cause is under investigation.
