Katy Perry: the mouth that roars

Fire up that grill!

That seems to be the motto of all the pop stars these days. At Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, Katy Perry sported a diamond encrusted grill spelling out “Roar,” the title of her new single. But she’s not the first pop tart to cop the look typically favored by rappers. Madonna recently landed on the cover of The Post thanks to her gold grill, and Miley Cyrus and Rihanna have also taken a bite out of the trend.

“It was obviously a thematic thing for her, but I mean, come on,” says Tom Fitzgerald of the popular fashion blog, Tom + Lorenzo. “I can’t believe this trend is coming back. But she’s not the first white girl to do it.”

Why the sudden interest?

“Pop stars, in particular, are very much like high school,” he says. “Remember in high school when someone showed up with orange laces in their sneakers and within three weeks everyone had orange laces? That’s the way pop stars are.”
